Quick answer: YouTube earnings = views ÷ 1,000 × RPM. RPM is what you keep per 1,000 views: the advertiser CPM × the share of views that show an ad × your 55% share. Most channels earn $1 to $10 RPM on long videos and $0.02 to $0.10 on Shorts. Engagement rate = (likes + comments + saves + shares) ÷ followers on Instagram, or ÷ views on TikTok. Everything the youtube earnings calculator can do.

CPM vs RPM: what YouTube actually pays

CPM is what advertisers pay for 1,000 ad impressions. RPM is what you earn for 1,000 views after YouTube's cut and after the views that showed no ad. YouTube keeps 45% of ad revenue on long videos, so RPM is usually 30 to 40% of CPM.

The formula in the calculator is: RPM = CPM × monetized playback rate × 0.55. A $10 CPM with ads on 55% of views gives an RPM of about $3.03, so 100,000 views earn about $303.

    YouTube CPM by niche

    NicheUS CPM rangeTypical RPM
    Personal finance and investing$15–$35$4.50–$10.60
    Real estate$12–$28$3.60–$8.50
    Business and marketing$10–$25$3.00–$7.60
    Tech and software$8–$18$2.40–$5.40
    Education and how-to$6–$14$1.80–$4.20
    Health and fitness$6–$12$1.80–$3.60
    Food and cooking$4–$9$1.20–$2.70
    Gaming$2–$6$0.60–$1.80
    Music$1.50–$4$0.45–$1.20

RPM here assumes a US audience and ads on 55% of views. Viewers in other countries usually bring lower rates, which you can set with the main audience menu.

    Worked example

A tech channel gets 150,000 views a month from a global audience, uploads eight videos longer than eight minutes and shows ads on 55% of views. The calculator gives a CPM of $4.50 to $10.13 and an RPM of $1.36 to $3.06, so ad revenue is about $330 a month (range $204 to $459). The same channel posting Shorts with 2.5 million monthly views earns about $100 from Shorts.

An Instagram account with 24,000 followers and 964 interactions per post has a 4.02% engagement rate. That is 1.6 times the 2.5% median for micro accounts, which supports charging toward the top of the rate card.

How to earn more as a creator

    • Make videos of eight minutes or more so you can add mid-roll ads.
    • Upload your strongest videos in October to December, when ad rates are highest.
    • Use Shorts to bring viewers to long videos, which pay 30 to 60 times more per view.
    • Use original audio in Shorts so licensed music does not take part of your share.
    • Pitch brands with your engagement rate, not just your follower count.

    Frequently asked questions

How much does YouTube pay per 1,000 views?

Most channels earn $1 to $10 per 1,000 views on long videos. Finance, business and tech channels with US viewers earn the most, while music, gaming and kids channels earn less.

What is the difference between CPM and RPM?

CPM is what advertisers pay per 1,000 ad impressions. RPM is what you earn per 1,000 views after YouTube's 45% share and after views that showed no ad.

How much do YouTube Shorts pay?

Shorts usually pay $0.02 to $0.10 per 1,000 views, so 1 million Shorts views earns roughly $20 to $100. Creators get 45% of their share of the Shorts ad pool after music licensing.

How do I monetize a YouTube channel?

Join the YouTube Partner Program with 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 public watch hours in 12 months or 10 million Shorts views in 90 days.

How do you calculate engagement rate on Instagram?

Add likes, comments, saves and shares on a post, divide by your follower count and multiply by 100. Use the average of your last 10 to 12 posts for a fair number.

What is a good TikTok engagement rate?

Measured against views, 3 to 6% is average, 6 to 9% is good and above 9% is excellent.

Is this creator earnings calculator free?

Yes. It is free, needs no sign-up and runs in your browser.

How is YouTube ad revenue estimated?

Monthly views x the share of views that show an ad x CPM / 1,000 gives what advertisers pay, and the creator keeps 55% of that for long videos. The calculator turns this into RPM, the amount you earn per 1,000 views, and adjusts for niche, country, season and video length.

Which YouTube niches have the highest CPM?

Finance, business, software and real estate usually have the highest CPMs because advertisers pay more to reach those viewers. Gaming, entertainment and kids content are usually lower. Pick your niche to see a realistic range.

Does audience country change how much I earn?

Yes, a lot. Views from the United States, Canada, the UK and Australia usually earn several times more than views from countries with lower ad prices. Choose your main audience country for a better estimate.

Why do YouTube earnings go up in Q4?

Advertisers spend most in October to December before the holidays, so CPMs rise. They are usually lowest from January to March. The Season option applies this effect.

    Do longer videos earn more?

Videos of 8 minutes or more can show mid-roll ads, which usually raises earnings per view. The calculator increases the estimate when you choose 8 min+.

    What are monetized playbacks?

The share of views where at least one ad is shown. It is usually about 45 to 60%, because some viewers use ad blockers or no ad is available.

What do I need to join the YouTube Partner Program?

For ad revenue you need 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 public watch hours in the last 12 months or 10 million valid public Shorts views in the last 90 days. The Partner Program check shows how close you are.

How does music affect Shorts earnings?

Shorts revenue is pooled and split. When a Short uses licensed music, part of its share goes to the music rights holders, so the creator earns less. The Shorts tab shows the effect.

How do I estimate sponsorship income?

Enter a sponsor rate per 1,000 views ($10 to $40 is common for integrations) and the share of your monthly views that carry a sponsor. At 150,000 views, $20 per 1,000 and half your videos sponsored, that is about $1,500 a month on top of ad revenue.

How does the 12-month projection work?

Enter your expected monthly view growth. The calculator grows your views month by month and shows the low to high revenue range for the year.

How much can I charge brands on Instagram?

Rates depend on followers, engagement and niche. The Instagram tab gives an estimated rate card for posts, Reels, Stories and packages, based on your follower tier and engagement rate.

How does TikTok Creator Rewards work?

TikTok pays for qualified views on original videos longer than one minute. The TikTok tab estimates Creator Rewards earnings, plus brand deal prices and LIVE gift income.

    Are these earnings guaranteed?

No. They are estimates from typical industry ranges. Your real CPM and RPM in YouTube Studio are the best guide, so type them in once you have them.

How much tax does YouTube withhold if I live outside the US?

Once your tax info is in AdSense, YouTube withholds US tax only on earnings from US viewers: up to 30% with no tax treaty, or a lower treaty rate. If you do not submit tax info, it can withhold 24% of all your earnings. Pick your case in the Total monthly income card and enter the share of views from the US to see your take-home pay.

Can I see my earnings in PKR, INR or another currency?

Yes. Choose PKR, INR, BDT, EUR, GBP, AED, SAR or CAD under Show in and update the exchange rate to today's rate. The total, the withholding and the take-home pay are shown in that currency next to the USD figures.

How many views do I need to earn a set amount each month?

Enter your target in the Income goal card. It shows the monthly views you need from ads alone at your RPM, the views you need when sponsors, affiliate links, memberships and merch are included, and how many videos that means at your current average views.

How much do channel memberships and Super Thanks pay?

Creators keep 70% of channel memberships and of Super Thanks, Super Chat and Super Stickers. Forty members at $4.99 bring in about $140 a month. Enter your members and fan-funding totals in the Other YouTube income card.

How do affiliate links and merch add to income?

Enter the share of viewers who click your links, the share of clicks that buy and your commission per sale. With 150,000 views, 0.5% clicks, 4% buying and $6 commission, affiliate links earn about $180 a month. Merch adds items sold times your profit per item.

When will I reach 10,000, 100,000 or 1 million subscribers?

Enter how many subscribers you gain each month and how fast that number is growing. The Subscriber milestones table shows the month you should reach 1,000, 10,000, 100,000 (Silver Play Button) and 1,000,000 (Gold Play Button).

How do I make a media kit for sponsors?

Add your channel name and business email in the Media kit card and click Create media kit PDF. It builds a one-page kit with your subscribers, views, average views per video, Instagram and TikTok stats and suggested rates for integrations, dedicated videos, Shorts, Reels and TikTok videos. Save it as a PDF from the print window.

How much does Facebook pay for video views?

Facebook pays through its Content Monetization program and Stars. Payouts per 1,000 views are usually lower for Reels and higher for videos of 3 minutes or more with in-stream ads, and depend heavily on audience country. One Star is worth $0.01. The Facebook tab gives a low to high monthly range.

How much do Twitch streamers earn?

Most income comes from subscriptions, where streamers keep 50% as standard or 60 to 70% in Partner Plus, plus ads, Bits (100 Bits = $1) and tips. The Twitch tab adds these up from your subscribers, average viewers, hours streamed and ad minutes per hour.

What do I need for Twitch Affiliate and Partner?

Affiliate needs 50 followers, at least 500 minutes streamed on 7 different days and an average of 3 viewers in the last 30 days. The Partner path needs 25 hours streamed on 12 days with an average of 75 viewers. The Twitch tab checks both.
